No. 5 seed UCSB will play for fifth place on Sunday at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational in Berkeley after splitting two matches on Saturday.
In the morning, No. 4 seed Stanford held the Gauchos scoreless in the fourth quarter to take a 12-10 decision.
Leo Yuno scored four goals for UCSB and Cole Brosnan and Nathan Puentes added two each. The second of Puentes’ goals tied the score at 10 with 2:18 left in the third quarter.
Goalie Danny Roland had seven saves for UCSB.
In the afternoon game, senior attacker Brosnan exploded for seven goals as the Gauchos edged No. 7 seed UC Davis 12-11.
Tommy Hawkins scored the deciding goal with 43 seconds left in the game on an assist by Brosnan.
UCSB will vie for fifth place in a 10 a.m. match against seventh-seeded Pacific.
No. 1 seed USC will take on No. 3 seed Cal-Berkeley for the championship.
