The UC Santa Barbara women’s soccer team conceded a goal in the fifth minute to USC and wound up losing 3-0 in a non-conference match at Harder Stadium.

It was the third straight shutout loss by the Gauchos (1-5-1).

USC attacker Croix Bethune nestled a perfectly placed shot in the bottom left corner of the goal on an assist from Penelope Hocking to make it 1-0 in the fifth minute.

Hocking added a goal on a penalty kick in the 41st minute.

Bethune picked up a second goal in the 87th minute, following up on a rebound.

UCSB sophomore goalkeeper Evann Smith made seven saves in the game, including several acrobatic efforts.

The Gauchos have a quick turnaround as the play University of San Diego at noon on Sunday.
