The stellar play of Doris Jones helped the UCSB women’s basketball team post two wins over the weekend at Cal State Fullerton. The Big West honored Jones for her performances by naming her the conference Player of the Week.

Jones had games of 29 and 17 points in leading the Gauchos past the Titans, 83-54 on New Year’s Day, and 79-60 the following day.

She scored 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting, had six rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals in the opening win, which was the first of the season for the Gauchos. In the second game, she put up 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a block.

Jones committed just four turnovers in 59 minutes of court time, while shooting 54.5% (18-of-33) from the floor and 45.5% (5-of-11) on three-pointers.

The Gauchos (2-6) are off this week. They’ll next play on Jan. 15-16 at Big West newcomer UC San Diego.  Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3 and live stats will be available on UCSBGauchos.com.
