The Channel League-champion and undefeated San Marcos girls tennis team will open the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs at home against Calabasas on Wednesday.
The Royals enter the playoffs with an 18-0 record. Calabasas is 9-7 and the No. 2 team from the Marmonte League.
Also in Divison 1, Santa Barbara High (17-6-2, Channel League No. 2) plays at Palomares League champion Claremont (13-2).
Dos Pueblos and Cate made the Division 2 bracket. DP (11-4-0 Channel League No. 3) travels to Placentia to play Valencia (13-8, Empire No. 1) while Cate (6-3, Tri-Valley No. 2) visits Oak Park (Coastal Canyon No. 2) on the first round.
Carpinteria (13-6-2, Citrus Coast No. 2) plays at Northview (11-5, Valle Vista No 2) in Division 4. Providence (7-6, Tri-Valley No. 3) is on the road at San Gabriel (10-9, Almont No. 2T) for a division wild-card match on Tuesday. The winner plays at second-seeded Downey (9-2, Gateway No. 1T) on Wednesday.
Bishop Diego earned a wild-card berth in Division 5. The Cardinals (6-6, Frontier No.2) will play at home Tuesday against Hueneme (6-9, Citrus Coast No. 4). The winner travels to Edgewood for the first round on Wednesday.
8-MAN FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
Laguna Blanca’s 8-man football team made the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs and will open at Avalon High on Catalina Island on Friday.
The Owls finished second to Villanova Prep in the Frontier League and went 5-3 for the season. Avalon, 2-5 playing a freelance schedule, qualified for the playoffs as an at-large team
CIF GIRLS GOLF
San Marcos finished 14th and Dos Pueblos 15th out of 20 teams at the CIF-SS Division 3 Championships at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills.
Junior Riley O’Brien and sophomore Sadi Adams each shot 98 for the Royals, junior Evelina Erickson posted a 101, followed by Fia Torrey (104) and Campbell Thayer (106).
Portola won the team title with a score of 384 and Marlborough was second at 405.
