SUMMARY:Fix-it Fair
DESCRIPTION:SBPL is proud to invite community members to our second Fix-It Fair!\n\n\nReduce waste and get your clothes\, jewelry\, bicycles\, and more fixed by local volunteers! Upcycle your clothes with fun stamps\, learn about refillable bulk products from Sunkissed Pantry\, swap plants with Idyll Mercantile\, and participate in a community dye bath with Explore Ecology.\n\n\nRepairs happen on a first come\, first served basis. Issues on bicycles related to safety must be taken care of prior to other issues.\n\n\nParticipation in the Fix-It Fair is free and volunteers will assist attendees on a first-come\, first-serve basis.\n\n \n\n\nFor those bringing multiple items to repair\, please be advised that if others are waiting\, we will repair one item and ask that you wait in line again for additional repairs so that we can serve as many people as possible in the short time we have.\n\n\nItems requiring additional parts and tools may be referred out to other local organizations/businesses.\n\n\nRepairs cannot be guaranteed but volunteers will do their best!\n\n\nThanks to our bike repair volunteers BiciCentro\, AS Bikes\, Velo Pro\n\n\nThis project was supported in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act\, administered in California by the State Librarian.

SUMMARY:Tutor Training for New Adult Literacy Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:Create connections and serve your community by volunteering as an Adult Literacy Tutor at Santa Barbara Public Library!\n\n\nTutors are trained and then matched with an adult English Language Learner or adult English speaker to achieve literacy\, educational\, and work-related goals. Tutors meet with Learners once a week for a 60-minute session at the Library and have full access to the Literacy Center.\n\n\nTutors are provided ongoing support through skills trainings\, one-to-one sessions with the Literacy Services Librarian and staff\, as well as skills workshops and appreciation events.\n\n\nParking is available at City lots near the library. The first 75 minutes are free.

The film follows Christian Robinson\, Yuyi Morales\, and Mac Barnett – three bookmakers leading the new “golden age” of kids literature – as they create experimental work that reflects the mysteries of childhood\, champion the marginalized\, and provide children with windows and mirrors\, even when their own lives are not fairy tales. Through rare archival and untapped insights\, we also come to meet the first boundary pushers of the art form and understand why the classics still endure today.\n\n\nCome early to purchase dinner from local food vendors in the plaza.
