SUMMARY:Honoring Indigenous Ways of Healing: Integrating the Medicine Wheel for Wellness
DESCRIPTION:Join the Santa Barbara Public Library and Dr. Heidi Coronado for an interactive workshop that invites participants to explore Indigenous ways of healing and wellness through the Medicine Wheel. Rooted in the teachings of various Indigenous traditions\, the Medicine Wheel represents balance\, harmony\, and interconnectedness with nature\, offering a holistic framework for self-care and well-being.\n\n\nParticipants will engage in experiential activities and discussions that highlight the importance of mind\, body\, spirit\, and emotional balance. Through storytelling\, reflection\, and guided exercises\, attendees will learn how to integrate Indigenous concepts of interconnectedness\, reciprocity\, the four elements and nature’s seasonal rhythms into their daily self-care practices. This workshop will provide practical tools to cultivate personal and collective healing while honoring the wisdom of Indigenous traditions.\n\n\nJoin us for a transformative experience that fosters deeper connections with ourselves\, our communities\, and the natural world.\n\n\nDr. Heidi Coronado is a university professor\, transformational and integrative coach\, meditation and mindfulness teacher\, and holistic healer. Rooted in a social justice and holistic perspective\, her work spans counseling\, psychology\, cultural studies\, contemplative practices\, sociology\, and gender and women’s studies\, which she has taught at various universities. As both an activist and scholar\, she is dedicated to fostering healing\, empowerment\, and systemic change.\nShe is a professor in the Counseling Department at California Lutheran University\, Dr. Coronado also runs a private practice\, offering counseling\, traditional and holistic healing\, coaching\, and consulting services to individuals and organizations. Her expertise lies in educational access\, historical and generational trauma\, trauma-informed practices\, resiliency development\, and Indigenous/Latino/a mental health and healing.\n\n \n\n\nWith experience as faculty\, counselor\, program director\, and consultant\, she has worked nationally and internationally across K-12 schools\, colleges\, universities\, and nonprofit organizations. In addition to her Master’s and Doctorate degrees\, she has extensive training in Eastern and Mesoamerican Indigenous healing practices\, epistemology\, and spirituality\, as well as mindfulness\, neuroscience\, trauma-informed\, and somatic practices.\n\n\nA first-generation college graduate\, Dr. Coronado has directed programs that support first-generation students and historically marginalized communities. Fully bilingual\, she provides services in both English and Spanish. She is deeply committed to creating safe\, nurturing spaces for learning\, healing\, and self-discovery\, helping individuals reconnect with their inner wisdom\, resilience\, and power to transform themselves and their communities. Her mission is to cultivate holistic\, decolonial spaces for empowerment and transformation.

Through engaging discussions and practical exercises\, participants will gain the tools needed to improve their financial well-being and\, for business owners\, enhance their financial management skills.\n\n\nKey Learning Objectives:\n\n\nUnderstand your money mindset and develop habits that foster financial resilience.\nSet realistic and meaningful financial goals for personal and professional growth.\nLearn how to create a budget\, manage expenses\, and pay down debt effectively.\nGain strategies for smart money management to achieve long-term financial stability.\nDevelop skills that enhance both personal and business financial confidence\, leading to greater success as an entrepreneur.\nIrene Kelly is passionate about the role money plays in our lives. She studied Finance and Entrepreneurship at the University of Utah and\, shortly after\, began working in the fields of Impact Investing and Poverty Alleviation. Through this work\, Irene learned about the importance of financial education both locally and abroad. Years later\, she moved to Santa Barbara to work as an Investment Advisor and started volunteering with WEV as a bilingual financial educator.
