Proceeds from all retail sales collected Aug. 30-Sept. 6 at Westerlay Orchids retail showroom will be donated to Carpinteria Education Foundation (CEF), the nonprofit fundraising partner of the Carpinteria Unified School District.

Kandie Overgaag, the wife of Toine Overgaag, owner/president of Westerlay, worked for the school district as a student counselor and has continued to be personally invested in the cause of supporting local youth.

CEF will administer the money to schools within the Carpinteria Unified School District, where it will be used to fund art, music and other enrichment programs.

Tickets for the 27th annual Carp-a-Cabana Fundraiser will also be on sale at Westerlay’s retail showroom all week long.

Westerlay was founded in Carpinteria in 1978 by Joe and Lucy Overgaag who emigrated from the Netherlands.

Starting in 2003, the company transitioned to orchid cultivation and currently operates 21 acres of greenhouses annually producing more than 3 million potted phalaenopsis and cymbidium orchids that are distributed throughout the Western U.S.
