Westmont had a tough night shooting and dropped its women’s basketball season opener, 58-39, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday.

The Warriors shot 13 of 55 from the floor (23.6 percent) and 7 of 29 from beyond the three-point arc (24 percent). They also struggled on the boards and were outrebounded 51-27.

“There is a lot we can learn,” said Westmont coach Kirsten Moore. “I know that we have a lot of fighters on our team and we are going to need to regroup and control what we can control and come back fighting to get better.”

Westmont led 16-10 after the first quarter but was outscored 20-3 in the second and never recovered.

Krissy Miyahara scored nine points and Kaitlin Larson had eight to lead Westmont.

Kate Parrish of CMS scored 14 points to lead all scorers. CMS shot 23-53 from the floor (43 percent).
