Seven Westmont student athletes were selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Teams for the 2019-20 school year, the most Warriors to earn division honors in a single year in school history.
Five of the athletes are from spring sports, four of whom competed in track and field.
The track and field representatives are Michael Oldach (3.77 GPA), Jack Dickinson (3.87), Charlotte Combrink (3.92 GPA) and Chena Underhill (3.97).
Oldach is a four-time NAIA All-American overall and the only two-time Golden State Athletic Conference individual cross country champion in program history. Dickinson was the Most Valuable Performer at the 2019 GSAC Championships and holds the Westmont record in the 35-pound weight throw. Combrink earned NAIA All-American honors this year in the indoor 4x800m relay, while Underhill is a four-time NAIA All-American in the pole vault.
Underhill is the only Warrior to ever to earn Academic All-America First-Team honors multiple times, and is looking to become the second Warrior in history to be selected to an Academic All-America Team on three occasions. She was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-American First Team for women’s track and field/cross country in 2018 and 2019.
From the women’s tennis team, Emily Peterson (3.89 GPA) was named to the Academic All-District 4 At-Large Team, which also consists of student athletes from beach volleyball, golf and swimming, among other sports.
The spring sports athletes join NAIA volleyball All-American Cassidy Rea (3.92) and four-time All-GSAC women’s soccer honoree Maddi Berthoud (3.84), as Academic All-District selections. Rea and Berthoud were chosen for the second time.
District 4 includes NAIA schools from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Canada.
The awards are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore athletically, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and play in 50 percent or more of their team’s contests.
The five spring-sports Warriors will move on to be considered for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. The women’s at-large team will be announced on June 16, while both track and field/cross country teams will be released on June 22.
