People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) has received a visionary grant of $40,000 from the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara. The funding will underwrite an expansion of the PSHH College Club.
“We cannot thank the Women’s Fund enough for their support of students pursuing their dreams of going to college,” said Joanna Dominguez, PSHH director of education. “With this incredible gift, many more students throughout Santa Barbara County will have a strong foundation for building bright and successful futures through higher education.”
College Club is offered through PSHH’s Camino Scholars education program, a service which helps college-bound students with application assistance, financial-aid navigation, career exploration, campus visits, and mentorship. The new funding will allow PSHH to address the 500% increase in students requesting support.
People’s Self-Help Housing was selected, along with 10 other local agencies, to receive funding in the Women’s Fund’s 2021-22 grant cycle. The 11 nonprofit organizations received a combined $900,000 in funding, which reflects the largest annual pool of contributions in the 18-year history of the volunteer-led collective donor organization.
This year’s amount brings the total funds awarded in grants to more than $9.5 million since 2004 when Women’s Fund members first began combining their charitable dollars into significant grants to address the critical needs of women, children, and families in south Santa Barbara County.
