The next generation of wrestlers are continuing the winning tradition at Dos Pueblos.

Varsity newcomers Cody Pearce and Eric Roldan stepped up in their first crosstown match and propelled the Chargers to a 51-18 Channel League dual meet victory at San Marcos on Wednesday night.

Pearce started the night with a decision at 106 pounds and Roldan moved up a weight class and was victorious in his bout at 120 pounds.

“I am extremely impressed on how Cody Pearce and Eric Roldan have been stepping up for the team,” said first-year coach Kenny Breaux. “I’m asking a lot out of my young wrestlers this year. They’ve proven to me week in and week out that they are dependable individuals. They have honestly earned their upper classmates’ respect.”

San Marcos got a win at 113 pounds before the Chargers took over the match. After Roldan’s victory at 120 pounds, Sean Fenn pinned his opponent at 126 pounds, Brennan Akley won by a decision 132 and Sean Yamasaki (138), Oscar Phillips (145), Abe Perdomo (152), Conner Lee (160) and Trey Jones (170) recorded pins to put the match away.

“Great team victory for us last night. We are continuing to improve each week on and off the mat,” said Breaux.

The Chargers are 2-0 in Channel League dual meets and 5-4 overall.

“We still have a lot to improve on, but it’s great too see how this group comes together during adversity. They all have each other’s back win or lose,” said Breaux.
