Accident Ties Up Highway 101 Traffic Through Santa Barbara

And the winner is?

In this instance the very reluctant City of Santa Barbara.

How so you say? 

The City has not narrowed outer State Street to two lanes as the anti car crowd demanded 4 years ago.  Nor did the anti car Luddites get their wishes on Las Positas for the same.  That meant as crowded and congested these streets were they were a badly needed alternative when 101 became essentially cut for a short time.

Let’s fast forward to next year when Cliff Dr. and Las Positas is bought (yes your tax dollars) from Caltrans because a minority of residents want to eventually narrow Cliff to 2 lanes, and narrow Las Positas…..!!!!

Suppose this accident was at Garden Street and 101 and the traffic flowed off onto Cliff and Las Positas WITHOUT the current carrying capacity.  Imagine we had a natural disaster that cut 101 for weeks, and these alternative routes were needed.

Yep you get it now…..chaos. 

Still want to take on the expense and annual upkeep of Cliff and Las Positas to sooth the nerves of a group of architects that have a break with reality every time someone draws out side of the lines?
