Santa Barbara County firefighters responded late Tuesday night to a barn fire near Santa Barbara.

Crews were dispatched at about 11:20 p.m. to the fire on the 4100 block of Vista Clara Road, north of Modoc Road, according to fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

Firefighters arrived to find the structure engulfed in flames, and needed about 40 minutes to knock down the fire, Safechuck said.

Several farm animals that were near the barn were unharmed, he said, adding that no injuries were reported.

Crews remained on scene doing overhaul and mop-up, Safechuck said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
