Firefighters from two departments responded to a residential barn fire east of Orcutt late Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County and Santa Maria fire departments were dispatched to the incident on the 3500 block of Telephone Road.

The area has large, sprawling parcels with homes and outbuildings surrounded by agriculture.

The barn was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported, according to fire Capt. Mike Gray.

The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes, Gray said, and the cause remained under investigation.

About a tenth of an acre of vegetation also was charred.

The incident occurred southeast of the Santa Maria Elks/Unocal Event Center, which is serving as the fire camp for the Lake Fire.
