All lanes of northbound Highway 101 in Carpinteria were shut down Saturday morning after a gasoline tanker overturned.
The crash — involving a tanker pulling a trailer —happened shortly before 7 a.m. south of Santa Monica Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The trailer came to rest on its side, blocking the right two highway lanes.
All northbound traffic on the freeway was being detoured at Casitas Pass Road and rerouted to Via Real, leading to heavy congestion on Highway 101 and surrounding roads.
The highway remained closed while the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District, Caltrans, and other crews worked to clean up the area.
All northbound lanes we’re reopened at about 1:30 p.m.

Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Marshal Michael LoMonaco said there were no injuries.
Traffic is “ugly,” at the moment, LoMonaco said Saturday morning.
Santa Barbara city hazardous materials crews and county environmental health inspectors were on scene to determine whether any gas leaked into the storm drains.
Two fire engines, and a battalion chief responded.
Cause of the crash was under investigation by the CHP.
