An investigation was underway Wednesday afternoon after a body was found in the surf on East Beach in Santa Barbara.

The Santa Barbara Police Department was notified of the discovery shortly after 3 p.m., according to Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale.

“The reporting party was able to flag down an AMR paramedic unit in the area,” Ragsdale said, and the person was confirmed dead.

Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau were responding to the scene, Ragsdale said.

No additional details about the body, including the age and gender, were released by police.

“This is an active investigation and all the information I have and can provide at this time,” Ragsdale added.
