One person was fatally injured Monday in a single-vehicle rollover crash.

At approximately 10:25 a.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol were dispatched to the crash on northbound Highway 101 near Jonata Park Road.

After overturning,  the vehicle, reportedly a black Ford Ranger, landed off the roadway and down an embankment but was not visible from the roadway, according to emergency dispatch reports.

A male patient with a head injury was trapped in the vehicle, but freed by firefighters after extrication efforts that lasted 10 minutes, said Karen Cruz-Orduña, county fire spokeswoman.

Emergency personnel were performing CPR on the patient, she said, but then the man was declared deceased at the scene.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office personnel also were on scene.

A CalStar medical helicopter was dispatched initially, but later canceled.

CHP officers from the Buellton area were investigating the cause of the crash.

One lane on northbound Highway 101 north of Buellton was closed due to the response and investigation related to the crash.
