More than 250 participants raised $156,079 at the 28th annual Cancer Center Walk/Run benefiting the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center at Sansum Clinic.
The Oct. 18 event was hosted by the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara and Four Seasons Resort Santa Barbara. Funds are still being counted, so the total could increase.
All proceeds from the event will support the Clinical Research Program and Patient Supportive Care Programs at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center. The Walk/Run has raised $3,785,368 since its inception in 1993.
Isabelle Patton, a cancer survivor and Ridley-Tree Cancer Center volunteer, was presented with the 2020 Julie Main Inspiration of Hope Award, given to an inspiring cancer survivor who exemplifies courage, perseverance and hope.
The Miracle Chefs had the largest team with 27 participants as of noon Oct. 16; and Julie Main’s Team, led by Main’s sister Lori Harris, raised the most money — more than $22,000. Julie Main’s Team also earned the Silver Cup, awarded to the team that raises the most money per person.
This year awards were also presented to the Best Quaranteam, Laura’s Supporters; the Social Media Influencer (Facebook) Lee Skeen and (Instagram) Rachel Stojanovski; the Best Costume, Bookworms; and Best Finish Line, Tiffany Ball.
The virtual family friendly event included a 10K Run, a 5K Walk/Run and a Kids’ Fun Run.
Through support from this event, the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center offers patients access to a Clinical Research Program, which includes a global network of clinical trials that target a variety of cancer diagnoses.
The Walk/Run also benefits the center’s Patient Supportive Care Programs, which include a cancer resource library, genetic counseling, patient navigation, nutrition, wellness classes, music therapy, and social work services.
