Dos Pueblos ace Nico Martinez held a potent-hitting Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks to three hits in five innings. But one of those hits was a two-run homer, and that proved to be the difference in Thursday’s CIF-SS Division 1 first-round baseball playoff game.
Diego Baquiero’s two-run blast gave left-hander and USC-bound Lucas Gordon all the support he needed to beat the Chargers, 2-0, in Sherman Oaks.
Gordon held Dos Pueblos to three hits and struck out seven in a complete-game performance.
Martinez nearly matched Gordon. He struck out four in five innings. Mason Boelter finished the game and allowed one hit. Martinez and Boelter are seniors.
“It was really sad to end things like this, but it was a good experience,” said DP infielder/pitcher Dylan Ledbetter. “We learned a lot from the seniors and look to carry that into next year.”
Dos Pueblos ends the season at 17-12-1.
