Gilbert Chavarría

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our son, brother and uncle Gilbert Chavarría Jr., 65, who died at his residence on July 3, 2019.

Gilbert was born and raised in Santa Barbara and attended local schools. As a young boy, Gilbert found his passion for music and his rhythm for the drums. He became a member of the Santa Barbara Amvets Jr. Drum Corps and pursued his great talent for many years while performing throughout Santa Barbara with numerous bands.

Gilbert proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War. After his military tour, Gilbert returned to his home town of Santa Barbara, where he was employed as a maintenance worker with the Santa Barbara School District, first at San Marcos High School and later at his alma mater, Santa Barbara High School.

Once a Don, always a Don!

Gilbert is survived by his son Gilbert Chavarría III; his mother Guadalupe Chavarría; sister Dolores Chavez; brother Jesse Chavarría; nephews David Chavez, Jr, and Joseph Chavarría; nieces Elizabeth Chavez, Diana Fausto and Maya, Leisa and Denise Chavarría.

Our loving brother Chacho was a humorous and gentle human being who will be deeply missed. You have taken a part of us with you and you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, followed immediately by interment at Goleta Cemetery, 44 S. San Antonio Road, Santa Barbara.

The Marine Honor Guard will present the American flag to his son in acknowledgement and appreciation for Gilbert’s service to his country.

Arrangements entrusted to Pueblo del Rey Funeral Services.
