Teresa Lua

Teresa Lua was born on Dec. 26, 1943, in Jaripo, Michoacán Mexico. Teresa migrated to Santa Barbara in 1976. She spent 20 years working for Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Teresa passed peacefully on Sept. 5, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones.

She enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, being with family, and visiting her hometown in Michoacán. She never let anyone leave her home unfed.

Teresa leaves behind 10 brothers and sisters, eight daughters, 20 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Teresa will be fondly remembered for her strength — anybody who knows her would describe her as a “guerrera” (warrior). She also will be remembered for her authentic cooking; hospitality; loving personality; and her sense of humor. She will be laid to rest near her late husband Jesus Lua.

Teresa is survived by her daughters Adelaida Reynoso and son-in-law David Reynoso, Guadalupe Machuca and son-in-law Martin Machuca, Maria Godinez and son-in-law Jose Godinez, Teresa Lua, Elena Angeles and son-in-law Miguel Angeles, Yolanda Saunders, Patricia Orlando and son-in-law Darren Orlando, Rebeca Bradley and son-in-law Ben Bradley.

Services for Teresa will be held at Saint Rafael Church, 5444 Hollister Ave., Santa Barbara. Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.
