Elliot Redkey shot a perfect 8 of 8 from the free-throw line and scored 16 points to lead Bishop Diego past Vaughn in a second-round pool-play game at the Malibu girls basketball tournament on Tuesday.
Julia De La Cruz added eight points, and the Cardinals played strong at the defensive end.
“I was very happy with our defense tonight, led by the intense play of Ariana Morones,” said coach Jeff Burich. “She set the tone and the rest of the team followed.
Bishop shut out Vaughn in the second quarter to take a 20-7 halftime lead.
The Cardinals (2-0) play host Malibu on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
