Calling all brainy game show fans.

You might have a chance to press the buzzer quickly and win money by correctly answering a clue.

“Jeopardy!” announced this week that it is seeking Santa Barbara-area residents to compete on the popular show when it returns to the studio in the coming months, according to a news release from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Prospective adult contestants are encouraged to take the online “Jeopardy!” Anytime Test through April 30. The quiz takes about 15 minutes to complete, and it’s available on an Internet-enabled computer, tablet or mobile device.

During registration, locals should select “Santa Barbara” on the drop-down list of audition cities.

Those who pass the test will be placed in a pool for an invitation to a follow-up audition on the show, which will occur once “Jeopardy!” resumes production, the news release said.

A handful of Santa Barbara County residents have made an appearance on the iconic game show, including Lori Goodman, executive director of Isla Vista Youth Projects and former chief development officer of CALM.

Her episode aired in September 2018, during which she won more than $36,000.

Goodman shared tips about preparing for the online “Jeopardy!” test.

“My advice is don’t rush it,” she said. “Give yourself the full 12 seconds per answer. Even if you know the answer right away — there is no need to rush through the test.”

The online test is a mix of standard “Jeopardy!” categories, Goodman said.

“You are going to have something on literature,” she said. “Something on religion, sports, history, and a before and after. People who watch ‘Jeopardy!’ regularly and shout out answers at the screen are great candidates to take this test.”

Goodman also encourages women to take the online quiz and audition for the television show.

She also mentioned the community aspect of the show and strong alumni network. Goodman is connected with former contestants from across the country, and even those she had never met in person “that are now some of my best friends,” she said.

“The big wonderful secret to having been on ‘Jeopardy!’ is once you are on — whether you get a gold, silver or bronze, you are part of the ‘Jeopardy!’ alumni community,” Goodman said. “It’s an incredible community of smart, thoughtful, kind and helpful people.”

“Jeopardy!” airs at 7 p.m. weeknights on KSBY (channel 6) in Santa Barbara markets.

The top-rated show and its host, Alex Trebek, are in the 36th season in syndication.
