Manuel O. Gauna

Manuel O. Gauna joined his beloved wife Rosario “Rosie” Gauna of 64 years in heaven on July 7, 2020.

Born Dec. 2, 1935 to Louis Bone Gauna and Juana O. Gauna, Manuel was the youngest of 15 siblings. He was raised in Eagle Pass, Texas. Manuel is survived by his sister Maria Luz Oliva.

Manuel’s legacy will live on through his pride and joy, his 10 children: Yolanda Villa (Robert), Mary-Lou Gonzalez (Late-Peter), Manuel Gauna Jr. (Anna), Joe Gauna (Mercedes), Virginia Calderon (Peter), Irene Rucobo (Manuel), Irma-Lu Noriega (Anthony), Sophia Gonzales, Steven Gauna (Isabel), and Veronica Franco (Fernando), along with his 29 grandchildren, and 51 great grandchildren.

After 20 years, Manuel retired from working hard within the Labor Union. Retirement didn’t mean he stopped working. He was always working on cars, and there was always a new project around the house. His hobbies outside of being with his family included fishing, hunting, going to the dunes, and barbecuing.

Manuel was a man of many traits, always filled with faith and storytelling that started with “Believe it or not.”

He accepted Jesus Christ into his life along with his wife and served as pillar of strength within the church Temple Christiano El Salvador. His passion for mentoring, serving, and loving people carried throughout his life.

Until his last breath, Manuel’s life reflected these two verses:

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalms 119:11

“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” Psalms 105:1

A grave-site service was held July 16 at Santa Maria Cemetery.
