A suspected drunken driver crashed into two police patrol vehicles Monday night while officers were investigating a reported shooting in downtown Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

At about 9:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Arrellaga and Castillo streets after receiving reports of shots fired in the area, police spokesman Anthony Wagner said.

“Officers arrived and found evidence of a shooting,” Wagner said. “No injuries were reported.”

While police investigated, a vehicle sped south on Castillo Street and struck a patrol vehicle parked on the right shoulder of Castillo Street, Wagner said.

The vehicle, driven by Jacob Milem, 20, of Lake Villa, Illinois, “bounced off of one patrol vehicle and broadsided another police vehicle,” Wagner said.

Both police vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the collision, Wagner said.

Milem was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Wagner said, adding that the shooting remained under investigation.

Additional details were not immediately available.
