After a 3-0 win over La Cañada Flintridge in the first round of the CIF playoffs, Santa Ynez fell to Shadow Hills 1-0 in the next round, ending the season.

The Pirates dominated possession the whole match and had 17 shots on goal.

“The first was in the second minute of the game, when Amelia Villa beat two Shadow Hills defenders and hit a right-to-left shot that bounced off of the upper left corner of the goal,” Santa Ynez coach Rob Cantrell said. “Villa had four other shots just like that on the day. That type of frustration was the order of the day.”

The Pirates finished their season at 8-6-1 with seven shutout wins and a one shutout tie for a goals against average of less than one goal per game at .76 goals-against average.

They accomplished much considering the circumstances,” Cantrell said. “While it’s sad to see their three seniors graduate, the future is bright with a full roster of young players coming back.”
