Bishop Diego lost to the No. 1 ranked Division 4AA Holy Martyrs Armenian team 54-28 in a first round CIF-SS playoff game Thursday.
Clara McDonald led the Cardinals in scoring with 10 points, and Elliot Redkey added eight.
Bishop Diego’s Citlali Morales made a three-point shot to cut the lead to 15-10 in the second quarter, but then Holy Martyrs went on a 13-1 run.
“I thought we were mentally tougher in the second half and got more aggressive on defense,” Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich said. “It was just not our night. Holy Martyrs is a very skilled and disciplined team. I think they will go far.
“They were just a little more physical than us from the start and had us playing on our heels.”
The Cardinals finish the season 7-4 and return four starters next season.
“Our seniors Sophie Benoit, Veronica Arreola and Elliot Redkey competed to the end,” Burich said.
