Four pitchers combined on a one-hitter for the Santa Barbara Foresters in an 8-0 baseball win over the Inland Valley Pirates on Saturday evening at Pershing Park.
It was an odd game. The lone hit for Inland Valley came from a batter that hit out of order, and substitute umpires called the game as the regular umps failed to show.
Foresters back-up catcher Ryan Wrobleski worked behind the plate and former longtime batboy Dylan “Crash” Davis handled the bases.
Ben Abram of Oklahoma threw five no-hit innings and struck out eight. Max Flame (Ventura College), Peyton Cole (BYU) and Cooper Randall (Oklahoma) pitched the final four innings, combining for six strikeouts.
Ethan Bates (Arkansas) belted a three-run homer in the second inning for the first round-tripper o the season. Jashia Morrissey (Cal State Bakersfield) had two hits, a RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. He also made a great leaping grab at third base. Andrew Kachel (Fresno State) reached base four times, with a single, a pair of walks and a dropped third strike.
The Foresters played a clean game on defense and improved to 3-0. The team hits the road on Sunday for its California Collegiate League opener against the MLB Academy Barons in Compton at 2 p.m. The game can be heard on AM 1290.
