Local triathlete Jon Waltman won the final 10-mile Monday Night Time Trial cycling event in Goleta in a time of 24 minutes, 23 seconds.
Darlene Krohn was the women’s winner in 28.56, which was ninth overall.
The annual spring-to-autumn endurance event crowned its podium finishers after the season’s final ride. The winners were determined by a competitor’s fastest three times on the 10-mile “open” course. The fastest three-ride time was 1 hour, 10 minutes, 12 seconds by local triathete Sean Harrington. The fastest single-event time was 22:09 by professional cyclist Brandon Baker in April. The course record is 21:18 by Goleta triathlete Chris Braden.
The cycling time trial was started by Donald “Doc” Flanigan in 1990. The event has always been free to all competitors. It regularly draws riders from the UCSB and local cycling clubs, the Santa Barbara Triathlon Club and local cyclists from teenagers to 80-plus years.
