SBCC scored five runs in the seventh inning to beat Chaffey, 7-3, in its baseball season opener on Thursday night at Azusa Pacific University.

Down 3-2, Max Porter and Pearce Blaney drew walks. A passed ball advanced both runners and Porter would score the tying run. After two more walks loaded the bases, Blaney scored the go-ahead run on another passed ball.

Following the fifth walk of the inning to re-load the bases, Owen Crevelt ripped a three-run double for a 7-3 advantage. Gavin Haimovitz, Mark Hernandez and Andrew McKenna scored.

Blaney drove in SBCC’s first runs with a two-run homer in the seventh. He drove in Caiden Matheney.

The Vaqueros needed just four hits to come away with the win, doing most of their damage in a lengthy top half of the ninth inning. Third baseman Owen Crevelt finished with a team-best three RBI, while outfielder Pearce Blaney had two RBI and two runs.

Chaffey looked to make things interesting in the bottom of the ninth, as a walk and two singles loaded the bases. However, SBCC reliever Jack McBride pitched out of the jam to earn the win.

McBride, Charlie Adamson and Aiden Garza each tossed three innings.

On Saturday, the Vaqueros make their home debut against Chaffey at 1 p.m. at Pershing Park.
