The Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee (SBWPC) has elected a slate of new officers and board members for three-year terms from 2022-24.

Catherine Sywsen will take over as president, replacing outgoing president Luz Reyes-Martín. Swysen previously served as president of SBWPC from 2016-18. She is a criminal and civil trial lawyer with Sanger, Swysen and Dunkle.

Other officers elected were: Charlotte A. Gullap-Moore, vice president of policy; Paula Lopez Ochoa, vice president of organization; Andria Martinez Cohen, secretary; and Meredith Murr, chief financial officer.

Four new members were elected for three-year terms: Marisol Alarcon, Tish Gainey, Dana Goba and Erica Schweitzer. Four returning members were also elected to continue serving new terms on the full board, including Pamela Flynt-Tambo, Hathor Hammett and Carol Keator.

Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee has been active locally since 1988, working to elect feminist candidates to public office at all levels of governance.

Beyond offering endorsements and campaign funding, SPWPC identifies, trains and supports first-time candidates who will hear, see and speak about the ways in which legislation can support and promote a fair, just and equitable society.
