Outstanding swimmers for San Marcos Thursday included Makenna Stretz and Asher Steelman, in the girls and boys 100 butterfly, respectively, as the Royals swept wins over Santa Ynez in a Channel League meet.
Stretz, a sophomore, “had one of her best dual meet performances of her career,” Royals girls swim coach Chuckie Roth said. She won the 100 fly in a personal-best time of 59.81 and also won the 200 IM.
“Kenny is one of our hardest working athletes,” Roth said of Stretz. “She is dedicated to the process of becoming better and she understands it does not happen overnight. I was happy she had a great showing today.”
Meanwhile, Steelman had an “outstanding swim” in the boys’ version of the 100 fly, Royals boys coach Peera Sukavivatanachai said, with a CIF consideration time of 53.58. He also won the 200 IM and the 200 free relay and saw a leg on the winning 200 medley relay.
The San Marcos girls won by a score of 142-37, and the boys prevailed 114-68.
Santa Ynez winners included Landon Lassahn, topping the boys 100 freestyle in 51.37 and swimming a leg of the 200 free relay. Addison Hawkins won the boys 100 breaststroke and Bennett Thorne the 50 free for the Pirates.
Winners for the San Marcos girls also included: Mia Amberger, 200 Freestyle, 2:08.69; Sophia Panossian, 50 free, 25.56, and 100 free, 54.98; Madi Sparre, 500 free, 5:28.21; Taylor Steelman, 100 backstroke, 1:01.39; Ava Stryker, 100 breaststroke, 1:16.39; Jessica Norman, 1-meter diving, 264.25.
For the Royals boys, Hank Jessup gave an “outstanding performance” in diving with a 187.30, coach Peera said.
Samuel Eaton won the boys 500 free in 5:43.91, and Gavin Tallman won the 100 fly in 57.06, among other San Marcos boys winners.
Dos Pueblos — Lompoc
Dos Pueblos girls and boys swept Lompoc in a home meet Thursday, the girls winning 123-37 and boys 115-55.
For the Charger girls, winners included:
— The 200 medley relay with Hannah Song, Eva Bennett, Cecelia Norris, and Brooke Findlay.
— Natalie Murray, Athena Wigo, and Sierra Rose Thompson swept the 200 Free taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.
— Brynn Graham won both of her individual events: 200 IM and 100 Fly.
— Sophomores Brooke Findlay(500 free) and Kate Hannah(100 Free) took first place in their events. Sophomore Ava Shabestari won the 100 Backstroke. Freshman Kay Taylor-Ng took first in the 100 Breaststroke. Freshman Megan Garner placed 2nd in the 50 Free.
For the Charger boys:
— Boys 200 Medley Relay with Jaden Moore, Max Segerstrom, Dylan White, and Will Robinson took first place.
— Sophomore Max Mayburn placed 2nd in the 200 Free.
— Freshman Liam Young took 2nd place in the 200 IM and 1st in the 100 Backstroke
— In the 50 Free, Will Robinson, Aden Bishop, and Michael Nueshul took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.
— Alexander Murran Doherty placed 2nd in the 100 Butterfly.
— Sophomore Jaden Moore took first in the 500 Freestyle and 2nd in 100 Backstroke.
— Senior Dylan White won the 100 Breaststroke.
