Vista del Monte is a premier continuing care retirement community located in beautiful Santa Barbara, California. Our staff is asked many questions and hear many “myths” about life at Vista del Monte. We’re here to bust those myths with the truth. Life at Vista del Monte, simply put, is a new adventure awaiting your desire! We take pride in helping you achieve your goals as you continue to enjoy what you have always loved and to explore new opportunities, make new friends, while cherishing old friendships and enjoy life to your full potential.
Here are the top five myths we have heard and the truth behind them.
1. If I move to a retirement community, I will lose my independence.
At Vista del Monte the opposite is true. From the friends you make to the programs you attend and the food you enjoy, there’s actually more opportunity to be independent at Vista del Monte than might be possible in your family home. Many of our residents when asked say, “I wish I would have moved to Vista del Monte much sooner.” The cooking, housekeeping, yard work and maintenance are all taken care of, making it possible for you to devote more time to things that are important to you. The best time to move is when you are able to enjoy all the social opportunities and events we have to offer.
2. Living at a senior living community is more expensive than living in my family home.
At Vista del Monte, chef-prepared meals in our restaurant-style dining room, scheduled transportation, maintenance, housekeeping, and most utilities, among other amenities, are included in your monthly fee. All our residents are members of the newly remodeled Vista del Monte Fitness & Aquatic Center, which rivals any fee-based state-of-the-art fitness center. Here, you will have peace of mind about not having to worry about or pay for broken appliances, plumbing or electrical problems, yard maintenance and so much more. It’s all included at Vista del Monte. Many residents soon realize that if they were to pay for all of these amenities and services separately, living at Vista may be less expensive on a monthly basis.
3. There is no difference between a non-profit senior living community like Vista del Monte and a for-profit community.
As a non-profit senior living community, Vista del Monte continually invests in improvements to better serve residents, from our new resident dining room, and park view lounge to our newly renovated apartments, and Fitness & Aquatic Center. We also invest in technology like smart home-enabled accommodations in partnership with the Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing, a team that works with innovative partners to find solutions, solve problems and enhance the lives of residents living at Front Porch communities. Vista del Monte continually looks to improve, so that we can better meet our residents’ needs.
4. My cat/dog is part of my family. I won’t be able to bring him/her with me to Vista del Monte.
It’s true that some retirement communities do not allow pets. However, cats, dogs and other small animals are part of your family and ours at Vista del Monte. We would never expect you to give up your “best friend,” or the joy and companionship they provide. For dog owners we have plenty of space to walk your dog and we will soon be adding a dog park.
5. Retirement communities are too “institutional.”
Vista del Monte is designed to create a welcoming, community environment for residents, family and friends. You will experience an enriching and fulfilling life filled with opportunities to continue what you love and the excitement of knowing new adventures abound. Here, you will find private, well-appointed apartments with patio gardens and great views. You will also find restaurant-style dining and a full menu of cultural, spiritual, recreational and educational opportunities to suit any lifestyle. We welcome you to come be a part of the Vista family and enjoy new friends and all the amenities we have to offer. And as a continuing care retirement community we also offer assisted living and memory care services all on site if you need them.
