The Carpinteria swimmers qualified four individuals and four relay teams to the CIF-SS Division 3 finals after performances in the prelims Thursday at the Marguerite Aquatic Center in Mission Viejo.

For the girls, Piper Clayton qualified with a 16th place finish in the 200 freestyle, while Erin Otsuki qualified with seventh-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

The girls 200 Medley relay team of Otsuki, Giulia Piccoletti, Lilli Nemetz, and Clayton qualified with an eighth-place finish, and the girls 4 x 100 freestyle relay team with the same lineup qualified with a seventh-place finish.

For the boys, Matthew Lamberti qualified with a school-record time in a 14th place finish in the 100 freestyle.

The boys 200 medley relay team of  11th (Asher Smith, Jackson Melton, Justin Main, and Lamberti qualified with an 11th place finish. The boys 4 x 100 relay team of Lamberti, Smith, Melton, and Main made it with an eighth place finish.

Both boys relay teams set new school records.

Last year, the Carpinteria boys captured the boys Division 4 title while the girls finished 14th. With both moving up to Division 3 this year as a result, the qualifying times became considerably faster.

“The qualifiers travel back to Mission Viejo Saturday to conclude their season with Saturday,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “This group of Warriors have had a great season with performances that have continued to amaze the coaches.
