Freshman Teddy Vigna fired a 1-under par 71 and three other Dos Pueblos golfers scored in the 70s, lifting the Chargers to their first CIF-SS boys golf title in school history.

Dos Pueblos shot 388 to win the Division 4 Championship on Monday at Soule Park. The Chargers finished nine strokes ahead of second-place Northwood.

“It was really great to watch the five guys put together good rounds all on the same day,” said coach Kevin Ahlers.

Twenty teams competed in the tournament.

Laith Reynold shot a 78 and Andrew Gentry and Ruben Mendoza each carded a 79, while Scott Nightingale and Michael Gentry  shot 81 and 83, respectively.

Vigna had three birdies in his round, and the team went a combined 4-under on the par-5 fourth hole, noted Ahlers.

“The playing conditions were tough because of the length, firm greens and some wind toward the end of the day,” said the coach.

Ahlers was happy to see the team bounce back after failing to qualify anyone on last week’s Northern Regional Individual Tournament at Los Robles Greens.

“It was nice for our seniors to go out in a high note, after not advancing for individual regionals,” said Ahlers. “It was so fun watching the scored come in and see our team score hold up.”

“Everyone on our team showed up and came to play,” said senior Ruben Mendoza.
