
Former Santa Barbara City Councilman Dale Francisco talks about conservative politics in Santa Barbara County, and offers his political insight on the June 7 primary election, in the latest episode of Santa Barbara Talks with Josh Molina.
Francisco dives into the discussion on the Santa Barbara County Education Office superintendent’s race between incumbent Susan Salcido and challenger Christy Lozano.
Francisco, a Republican, says that Lozano is facing an “uphill battle,” but doesn’t dismiss her candidacy entirely.
“She faces all the disadvantages a first-time candidate running in an uphill race faces,” Francisco said. “On the other hand, she is a representative of a very important issue right now.”

He also talks about the battle between Gregg Hart and Mike Stoker for the 37th District Assembly,
Francisco also shares his feelings on the Republican Party’s lack of political relevancy, and explains why it’s so hard for Republicans to win in Santa Barbara County.

Francisco stunned political observers when he won election to the Santa Barbara City Council in 2007.
He spoke out about a flurry of street sweeping signs that the city of Santa Barbara’s Public Works Department wanted to install on the upper Eastside, and he pushed back against mini-roundabouts, sidewalk extensions and street narrowing, suggesting that they weren’t safe, and the newly hired urban planners were out of touch with the needs of local residents.
Francisco served eight years on the council and remains an influential person is conservative politics.
