Authorities have released the name of the 10-year-old girl who was killed Wednesday in a rollover crash on Highway 1 near Lompoc.
The victim was Judith Perez De La Cruz of Lompoc, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.
Two other Lompoc residents were injured in the crash, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 1 about a half mile north of Santa Lucia Road.
The vehicle was in the left-hand lane when the driver “made an unsafe turning movement,” causing it to leave the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle — a GMC Envoy driven by Eunice Perez De La Cruz, 18, of Lompoc — ended up off the roadway in heavy brush, the CHP said.
Judith and an 8-year-old girl were ejected from the vehicle, the CHP said.
Both Eunice Perez De La Cruz and the 8-year-old girl were critically injured in the crash, and taken to local hospitals, the CHP said.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, said the CHP, which is investigating the crash.
