The Cate girls rallied with a strong fourth quarter to beat Santa Ynez 38-31 at home Tuesday in a non-league matchup.
Sophomore Sophia Ospina scored 10 of her 19 points in the final frame, after hitting a 3-point shot at the end of the third quarter to bring the Rams to within two at 20-18.
The Pirates had taken the lead in the third quarter after trailing 12-7 at halftime.
Helina Pecile led Santa Ynez with eight points and six rebounds. Jadyn Gardner and Lexi Molera both added seven points. Kylie LaPointe had seven rebounds.
“The Cate girl’s varsity basketball team finished their last game of 2022 with their best performance yet,” Cate coach Laura Moore said.
“Facing an athletic Santa Ynez team that beat Santa Barbara high school earlier this month, the Rams came out with intensity from the tip and when challenged late had tremendous composure to battle back to get a victory.”
