Dayzia Mendoza scored 21 points and Chloe Adams had a double-double for the Santa Barbara High girls basketball team in a 67-47 loss to Oxnard in a Channel League game on Saturday night.
The Dons only trailed by six after the first quarter and were down by 10 at halftime (34-24).
The Yellow Jackets pulled away in the third quarter.
“Turnovers and defensive lapses proved to be the difference for the Dons at Oxnard tonight,” said coach Andrew Butcher. “Defense has been our strength recently but we lost their top shooter on several occasions and that is a recipe for disaster.”
Adams played a solid game, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Jazz Gordon tallied eight points and had eight rebounds.
“Chloe Adams played an excellent all-around game on defense, rebounding and scoring,” said Butcher. “Jazz Gordon continued her strong play and Dayzia once again led the Dons in scoring as well as hustle.”
Santa Barbara fell to 1-7 in league while Oxnard is 6-3.

Oxnard 77, Dos Pueblos 19
Oxnard’s relentless pressing defense forced Dos Pueblos into several turnovers, as the top-ranked Yellow Jackets rolled to the Channel League win.
“We had too many turnovers against the number one team in (CIF-SS) 2AA,” said DP coach Joe Zamora. “We did a decent job against their guards but we really had no answer for the post opportunities they had and their offensive put backs.”
Dos Pueblos falls to 2-7 in Channel League and 7-15 overall; Oxnard is 9-0 and 21-2.
