The first two days of the unsanctioned spring celebration known as Deltopia ended with arrests and citations in Isla Vista along with multiple medical calls.

Three arrests occurred and more than 20 citations were issued on Friday, according to the preliminary data provided by Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. 

On Saturday, there were about a dozen arrests and around 20 medical transports, Zick added Saturday evening.

The majority of the medical incidents and arrests were related to alcohol use, she said.

Isla Vista Foot Patrol deputies and allied agencies were out in force Saturday to keep the community safe, Zick added.

Traffic affected by attendance on Saturday led to the closures of several roads, including Sabado Tarde Road at Camino Corto, Del Playa Drive at Camino Corto, 6750 Alleyway from Trigo Road to Sabado Tarde, and Trigo Road at El Embarcadero Road, Camino Pescadero and Camino Del Sur.

Those closures were lifted on Saturday evening, she added.

Parking and beach restrictions have been implemented for the weekend in anticipation of revelers.

Beaches near Isla Vista will remain closed Sunday after being closed Friday and Saturday.

“The Deltopia event is not a sanctioned event, and there are no permits. The beaches will be closed to protect public health and safety, and to protect the beach from excessive waste and litter,” Santa Barbara County officials said. 

Temporary parking restrictions are in place for streets closest to Isla Vista in order to dissuade Deltopia attendees from parking in Goleta neighborhoods.

The parking restrictions will be in place until 7 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. 

The Isla Vista Community Services District hosted its second-ever Spring Festival as an alternative to Deltopia.

The festival was set to occur Saturday at Little Acorn Park from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to Sydney Castañeda, community engagement director for the Isla Vista Community Services District.
