Chaucer’s Books will host actor, author, and Central Coast resident Timothy James Bottoms for a book talk and signing of his novel “The Pier: A Fisherman’s Story,” 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at 3321 State St.
“The Pier” is both a coming-of-age story and a love letter to Santa Barbara. It tells the journey of a little boy, as he grows into a big boy over just one day.
“The Pier is so well done, that I could hear the sounds of the gulls fighting over bait, smell the salt-filled fog that surrounded the pier, all while feeling the same trepidation I felt the first time I journeyed out alone,” said Chaucer’s Michael Takeuchi.
The eldest of four brothers in a generation of actors (Timothy, Joseph, Sam and Ben Bottoms) who grew up in Santa Barbara, Timothy is probably best known for his starring role in “The Last Picture Show” in 1971. Other film credits include “The Paper Chase,” “Rollercoaster” and “Elephant.”
“The Pier” is Bottoms’ first foray into the book world.
