A man died Sunday after jumping off the Santa Barbara Courthouse clock tower observation deck, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

At 4:30 p.m., the dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call about “a subject that had leapt from the top of the court’s clock tower look-out,” police Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale told Noozhawk.

Responding officers discovered an adult male who was unresponsive on the Anacapa Street side of the courthouse tower, he said. They performed CPR until fire and paramedic personnel arrived, he added.

An American Medical Response ambulance transported the man to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, “where he was tragically pronounced dead,” Ragsdale said.

“No foul play is associated with this investigation,” he said.

County Coroner’s Bureau staff were in the process of contacting the man’s next of kin, and his name was not released.
