Heavy fog along the coastline was disrupting commercial air traffic at the Santa Barbara Airport on Thursday afternoon.
Several arrivals and departures were being delayed or canceled as of mid-afternoon, according to the airport’s website.
“Weather is a big impact,” Angi Daus, an airport spokeswoman, told Noozhawk.
In addition, she said, a piece of Federal Aviation Administration equipment used to help planes land in low-visibility conditions was not working, and repairs have been requested.
At least two flights into the airport were diverted: a United Airlines flight from San Francisco was sent to Los Angeles, and an American Airlines flight from Phoenix went to Bakersfield.
At least two other flights were diverted later Thursday night.
Nearly all of the afternoon departures from Santa Barbara were delayed or canceled.
Similar conditions caused disruptions on Wednesday.
Daus noted that some aircraft were still able to land based on the technology they have on board.
She did not know how soon the FAA equipment would be repaired.
Foggy conditions along the coast were expected to persist into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
