A man critically wounded in a Lompoc shooting on April 17 has died after what detectives determined was an accident, police Sgt. Vincent Magallon said. 

Officers were dispatched at 8:39 a.m. April 17 to the 400 block of West Pine Avenue regarding a shooting, according to police. 

Upon arrival, they located Robert Kenner, 62, of Lompoc with a single gunshot wound to his right leg, police said. 

After determining the scene was safe, American Medical Response and Lompoc Fire Department personnel arrived to treat the victim. 

He was then flown by a CalStar medical helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital based on the life-threatening injury he had received, police said.

On Wednesday, police learned the man had died from complications of his injury. 

“Based on the investigation, detectives determined the injury was a result of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot,” Magallon said Thursday.
