Authorities have released the name of the motorcyclist who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a collision with a U.S Postal Service vehicle in Hope Ranch.
The victim was Michael Joseph Figone, 45, of Santa Barbara, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 4:45 p.m. to the crash on Marina Drive near Alisa Lane, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Figone was declared dead at the scene after the collision with the mail truck, driven by George Turner, 33, of Santa Barbara, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Yamaha R6 motorcycle was heading east on Marina Drive when it slammed into the right side of the westbound postal vehicle as it was turning left onto Alisa Lane, the CHP said.
Figone was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway.
Turner was uninjured, Safechuck said.
Marina Drive was shut down for about two hours while law enforcement officers investigated the crash.
Drugs or alcohol are not believe to be factors in the collision, which remained under investigation, the CHP said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the CHP at 805-967-1234.
