A SBCC comeback fell short against Golden West in the opening game of a best-of-three So Cal Regional baseball playoff series, as the Vaqueros fell, 7-6, on Friday at Pershing Park.

They trailed 6-0 after three innings before picking up single runs in the fifth and seventh. Golden West made it 7-2 in the eighth and the Vaqueros responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to pull within one. But they couldn’t come up with a tying run.

The teams will play Game 2 on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. A third game will follow at 3:30, if necessary.

Golden West (21-20) jumped on SBCC starter Seth White for three runs and five hits in 1.2 innings. Aidan Garza entered in the second and gave up four runs on four hits and five walks in 5.2 innings.

Golden West starter JD Rodriguez pitched seven innings and held SBCC (27-14) to two runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out seven.

Daniel Hirose had two hits and a RBI and Carson Cahoy homered in the fifth inning for SBCC. Ethan Watson drove in two runs and Patrick Walsh and Zach Torres each had one RBI.
