The Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association 12U Thunder team had another strong performance this past weekend at the annual Jessica Mendoza fastpitch softball tournament held in Camarillo.
The Thunder outscored their competition 47-4 during the two-day event. The team defeated Hart 16-1 (mercy rule after 3 innings) and shut out Sierra Madre 9-0 in pool play. Thunder took the No. 1 seed going into Sunday’s bracket play ,where they shut out Northridge Gold 7-0 to advance to the championship.
Thunder faced off against Camarillo Gold in the championship. The two teams met up twice before in championship play, where Thunder came out top on both occasions. Thunder’s bats came out strong early in the game and stayed hot throughout the competition. The team scored 15 runs on 15 hits and batted 0.652 in the championship against Camarillo. The game ended by mercy after 4 innings and Thunder won 15-3.
Members of the team include: Sofia Bautista, Kyanne Bechler, Juliana Brunner, Kylie Buben, Elise Dreesmann, Scarlett Holian, Autumn Johnson, Piper Kittle, Madyson Meza, Emily Morici, Sophia Munoz, Dylann Ramirez, Alanah Salas.
The team’s coaches include: Beau Brunner (Manager), Vince Holian, Justin Ramirez, Julie Kittle and Cyrus Morici.
