A 27-year-old Santa Maria man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting from February, Lt. Daniel Rios of the Santa Maria Police Department said.
At 11:50 p.m. on Feb. 4, the SMPD Communications Center received multiple calls of shots fired in the 400 block of North Railroad Avenue.
Officers immediately responded to the scene and confirmed that a shooting had occurred with two adult male victims injured in the incident.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
One of the victims, Robert Valencia, 40, died as a result of the shooting.
No arrests were made at the time of the initial incident, but Santa Maria police detectives continued to diligently work on the case, leading to the identification of a suspect, Rios said this week.
On Wednesday morning, detectives with assistance from the department’s SWAT Team conducted a search and arrest warrant operation in the 100 block of West Camino Colegio focused on Medrano and his residence.
Medrano was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of murder with bail set at $2 million.
