Santa Maria set a high-temperature record for Oct. 6 on Friday as the Central Coast sweltered through unusually hot weather.

A reading of 101 degrees was recorded at the Santa Maria Public Airport, breaking the record of 96 set in 1971, according to the National Weather Service.

A high of 95 was reached at the Santa Barbara Airport, the official weather station for Santa Barbara, but that was just short of the record of 97, also set in 1971.

A Heat Advisory will remain in effect for Santa Barbara County until 7 p.m. Saturday.

Highs on Saturday are expected in the mid-80s near the coast, but close to 100 degrees in some inland locations.

High temperatures should drop by about 10 degrees on Sunday and into the coming week.

Overnight lows are expected in the high 50s and low 60s.
