Detectives were investigating a homicide that occurred early on Wednesday on a street in Old Town Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on Carson Street between Pine and Magnolia avenues, sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick said, adding that deputies responded to the scene at 6:42 a.m.
“When deputies arrived, they found an adult male subject in the roadway who was deceased,” Zick said.
At about 8 a.m., deputies found a man in the area who had been injured, and he was detained as a “person of interest” in the killing, Zick said.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, Zick said.
Carson Street was closed for several hours on Wednesday morning while crime scene investigators examined the area.
There was a white pickup truck and a gray SUV in the parking area, along with a bicycle lying on its side.
A small crowd of onlookers stood watching nearby, behind a line of yellow crime-scene tape.
